About this site
This site connects foreign band fans with Japanese livehouse culture, spotlighting the small live houses and underground music venues travelers search for instead of idol-only halls.
Mission
Why JGIG exists
Japan's indie music scene is full of undiscovered talent. I built JGIG to bridge the language and cultural gaps so travelers looking up “small live houses Tokyo” or “live house events for foreigners” can step inside a venue and feel a new side of Japanese culture.
Profile
Let me introduce myself
Hey, I'm Nabe. I grew up in Osaka's live houses, playing in bands and working at venues like Pangea and ANiMA. After a decade in the Kansai scene, I moved to Tokyo and started this site.
There are so many ways to enjoy music--listening, playing, watching--but my favorite part is digging for new acts in basements and lofts. JGIG translates that digging spirit into English so Visitors can discover Japan’s hidden music culture — intimate live showcases, and underground scenes that you can only truly experience in person.
Use this guide to plan your own route, tag discoveries with #JGIG, and let me know which English-friendly live music Japan spots surprised you. Enjoy the ride and have an amazing live experience in Japan!
Values
What we care about
- Respect for bands, staff, and fans who keep the scene running.
- Accessibility for travelers who may only have one free night in Tokyo to find a live house near me option.
Ads or partnerships will always be labeled clearly. Independent recommendations remain the default.
