How we make JGIG
JGIG is an English guide to small live houses in Tokyo and Osaka, made for travelers. This page explains where the listings come from, how the numbers are counted, how the guides and columns are written, and how the site is kept up to date.
Who
Who makes JGIG
JGIG is run by Nabe, who played in bands and worked at live houses in Osaka before moving to Tokyo. Read more on the About page.
Listings
Where the show listings come from
- Shows come from the schedules that each listed venue publishes on its official website. JGIG collects them, puts them into one English format and links every show to its official page.
- Organizers can also apply to list a show with JGIG Spotlight. Those listings are reviewed before they go live and are always labeled as sponsored.
- Prices, times and door tickets can change after a show is listed. The official event page is the final word, so check it before you go.
Numbers
How the numbers are counted
- Figures such as the typical drink fee or the median ticket plus drink fee are counted automatically from the upcoming Tokyo and Osaka shows listed on JGIG. Nobody types them in by hand.
- They are recomputed every day, and the period and the number of shows they cover are stated next to them. A number based on too few shows is not shown.
- Values that are clearly import errors (for example a drink fee far outside the usual range) are left out of the count.
- The numbers describe the shows listed on JGIG, not every live house in Japan. They are not a promise of what any show will cost.
Writing
How the guides and columns are written
- Columns are drafted with the help of AI (Claude). A person then checks each fact against official sources such as venue, organizer and ticket-site pages, and the site owner approves every column before it is published.
- Each column lists its sources with the date they were checked, and the date it was last updated. Anything we could not confirm is left out rather than guessed.
- We do not write made-up experiences or reviews, and we do not say a show will have space or door tickets.
- Why we write them: to answer the questions travelers ask before their first live house night, and to point them to the shows and the official pages.
Updates
How the site is updated
- Venue schedules are collected again every month and checked for missing or changed shows.
- Past shows drop off the listings automatically.
- Columns that rely on third-party rules (ticket sites, venue policies) are reviewed again within about three months.
