First time at a Japanese livehouse?
TL;DR: Learn the basic flow - from lining up to buying merch - so you can relax and enjoy the show.
Livehouses look intimidating at first, but the routine is simple once you know the steps. Here is how to check in, order your first drink, and respect local manners.
Before the show
Arrive 10-20 minutes before doors open, especially for popular indie events. Staff will ask for your name or show your QR ticket, then collect the drink fee.
During the show
Bags are usually kept with you. Earplugs are welcome. Most people stand and lightly nod or sway - crowd surfing is rare except at hardcore shows.
After the show
Merch tables often open immediately after each band. Have cash ready, or ask if they accept cards. Congratulate bands with a quick 'otsukaresama' before leaving.
