New Year's Eve countdown gigs in Tokyo and Osaka (2026–27)

Some live houses hold New Year's Eve shows: some end soon after the midnight countdown, and some run all night until early morning. As of 15 October 2026, the rail companies had not announced their train plans for that night. Before you buy, check the end time, the age limit and your way home on the official pages in December.

Why check the end time first?

The format decides how you get home. A countdown show ends around midnight. An all-night show ends in the early morning. Trains that night can run differently from a normal night, and each rail company decides its own plan. So the end time and your train line matter more than the start time.

What did last year's shows look like?

These are examples from official pages for 31 December 2025. They show the range of formats, not this year's plans.

How did trains run last New Year's Eve?

Last year's plans, from the rail companies' official notices. The plans for 31 December 2026 had not been announced as of 15 October 2026.

  • JR East (Tokyo area): Ran all night on six lines: the Yamanote, Keihin-Tohoku/Negishi, Chuo-Sobu local, Chuo rapid, Yokosuka, and Sobu main/Narita lines. Times and frequency differed by line.
  • Toei Subway (Tokyo): Did not run all night, and did not extend its last trains.
  • Osaka Metro: Did not run all night. It ran a Saturday and holiday timetable from 27 December to 4 January.
  • Keihan: Ran all night on the Keihan main line and the Nakanoshima line, among others.
  • Nankai: Did not run all night or extend its service.

Even if one line runs all night, your connection may not. Check every part of the trip from the venue's nearest station to where you are staying.

What should you check on the event page?

  • The end or closing time. A title with both years in it does not by itself mean a countdown. Check the times.
  • Age limits. Many shows have age limits. Check the official event information.
  • Re-entry. Last year, LIVE HAUS allowed re-entry. Other shows may not, so read the event post.
  • The price by entry time. Last year, LIVE HAUS set a separate price for late entry. Check whether your show does.

When might your plan fall through?

  • The show isn't posted yet. As of 15 October 2026, CLUB Que's December calendar had no show for 31 December. Check again in December.
  • A venue has no show that night. A blank day on a venue calendar means no show is listed. It does not tell you whether the venue is closed.
  • New Year's Day is quiet at some venues. Zeela's January 2026 calendar had no shows on 1 and 2 January. Shows started on 3 January.
  • Details change. Promoters sometimes change times, prices or lineups at short notice. Year-end shows can also sell out.

How do you plan your New Year's Eve gig?

  1. Open JGIG's list for 31 December and pick a show near where you are staying.
  2. Open the official event page. Note the format, the end time, the age limit, re-entry and the price.
  3. In December, check the rail companies' notices for the 2026–27 New Year's Eve plans. The links are in the sources below.
  4. Plan your route home from the venue's nearest station, line by line.
  5. If no train runs late enough for your route, choose a show that ends in time, or stay within walking distance.
  6. Bring cash for the drink fee, and for the ticket if you pay at the door. Save your route home as a screenshot.

What if you are alone, have no Japanese or cash, or buy at the door?

  • Going alone: Save your route home before the show. Reception can be weak in basement venues.
  • No Japanese: To ask about the last train, show a phrase from the directions phrasebook to staff. JGIG's English guide suggests this.
  • No cash: The drink fee is usually ¥600, paid at the door. If re-entry is allowed, ask whether you pay again when you come back.
  • Door ticket: Door tickets are sold only if there is space, and year-end shows can sell out. Check the official page on the day, and have a second show in mind.
