Why plan holidays on their own?

A holiday changes more than the calendar. Venues may plan special events, such as multi-venue circuits, and trains may run on a weekend and holiday timetable. JGIG's night-by-night counts mix holidays with ordinary days, so they may not describe a holiday. Plan from the official pages for your exact dates.

What did 2026 look like?

These are examples from official pages. They show that shows happen, not how many.

  • Golden Week, Tokyo: Shinjuku LOFT's site listed a circuit event across three Shinjuku venues on 2 May. On 4 and 5 May, one ran across eleven.
  • Golden Week, Osaka: Billboard Live Osaka listed two stages a day for six days, from 1 to 6 May.
  • Obon, Tokyo: Zirco Tokyo listed an Obon show on 12 August, and more shows from 13 to 16 August.
  • Obon, Osaka: Umeda Zeela listed shows on each day from 12 to 16 August, with several shows on the 15th and 16th.
  • New Year: See New Year's Eve countdown gigs for 31 December and the trains that night.

What is a circuit event?

A circuit (サーキット) is an event that uses several venues. Shinjuku LOFT's May 2026 listings used three Shinjuku venues on one day, and eleven on two others. Read the event page to see which venues are included and how entry works.

What can't these pages tell you?

  • More or fewer shows than usual. The pages show shows on holidays, not how the number compares with other weeks.
  • Whether a venue is closed. A blank day on a calendar means no show is listed. It doesn't tell you the venue is shut.
  • Next year's dates. Next year's dates. Japan's Cabinet Office publishes the official list of public holidays, including 2027.
  • Your train home. The last connection from Shimokitazawa to Tokyo via Shinjuku leaves about 23:56 on weekends and holidays, and 23:58 on weekdays. Both are worked out from each line's official timetable (15 October 2026).

How do you plan a holiday gig?

  1. Check that your dates are inside JGIG's list (Oct 15, 2026 – Dec 31, 2026). If not, use the venues' official calendars.
  2. Open the JGIG calendar for each of your dates.
  3. Look for サーキット (circuit) or special titles on the official event pages.
  4. Check tickets early. Shows can sell out, and details can change.
  5. Check your train's weekend and holiday timetable for the way home.

What if you are alone, have no Japanese or cash, or buy at the door?

  • Going alone: A circuit event uses several venues. Save each venue's map before you set out.
  • No Japanese: Words to spot: サーキット (circuit), お盆 (Obon), ゴールデンウィーク or GW (Golden Week), and 土休日 (weekends and holidays) on timetables.
  • No cash: At JGIG-listed shows, the drink fee is usually ¥600. Check each event page, and bring yen.
  • Door ticket: Door tickets depend on space. On a holiday, keep a backup show in mind.
